What this tool does
Estimates your daily calorie requirement by applying your activity level to the basal metabolic rate computed from your weight, height, age and sex.
When to use it
- Planning to lose or gain weight and needing a starting point.
- Wanting an approximate daily requirement to maintain your current weight.
- Adjusting a nutrition plan as your activity level changes.
How to use it
- Enter your weight, height and age, and choose your sex.
- Choose the "Activity level" closest to your reality.
- Run the calculation and read the daily estimate.
A practical example
Input
Details for an adult with a moderate activity level.
Output
An estimate of the daily calories needed to maintain the current weight at that activity level.
Limitations
- This calorie estimate is a general starting point rather than a prescription; any plan to lose or gain weight deserves professional supervision.
- Activity level is the biggest source of error here: most people overestimate theirs, and picking a level above reality produces a figure larger than you actually need.
- The number is a statistical estimate and individual response varies — track your actual weight and adjust on what happens rather than on the figure alone.
- It is not suitable for children, pregnant or breastfeeding people, or anyone with a relevant health condition.
Privacy and processing
Your body measurements and activity level are computed locally and never leave your device.
Technical notes
- The calculation starts from the Mifflin–St Jeor basal rate and multiplies it by a factor corresponding to the activity level you choose.
