Video Compressor

Compress a video file to a smaller size so it's easier to email, message, or upload within a platform's size limit — all processed locally using your browser's own video engine, so the original file never leaves your device.

Video Tools Runs entirely in your browser

Your video is processed on your device and is never uploaded to our servers.

Only use this tool with files you own or have the right to process.

You can select more than one file (MP4, WebM, MOV, or MKV)

What this tool does

Reduces video file sizes by re-encoding at a compression level and resolution you choose. Several files can be compressed at once with the same settings.

When to use it

  • A video is over a platform's or messaging app's upload limit.
  • You want to send a clip by email and its size prevents it.
  • You are archiving many clips and want to save storage.
  • A video is at a far higher resolution than its purpose needs.

How to use it

  1. Put your video files on the drop area or choose them.
  2. Choose the "Compression level" and "Resolution" — you can leave the resolution as "Original".
  3. Wait for processing; any file can be cancelled or retried.
  4. Download the compressed videos individually or with "Download all as ZIP".

A practical example

Input

A two-minute 4K clip of 420 MB, at a mid compression level and 1080p.

Output

A 1080p clip at a far smaller size whose difference is not noticeable on a phone screen.

Limitations

  • Compression is lossy; high levels show blockiness in fast-moving scenes.
  • The same setting applies to every selected file regardless of each one's own original resolution.
  • Re-encoding is heavy: a long video can take minutes on your device's processor.
  • The file limit is 1 GB, with a warning above 200 MB.

Privacy and processing

Every file is processed inside your browser by a locally running engine, and no video is uploaded to our servers.

Technical notes

  • Re-encoding uses FFmpeg.wasm inside a web worker, which is what keeps the interface responsive and the cancel buttons working during processing.
  • Batch runs are sequential rather than parallel, because video encoding is heavy on both processor and memory.

Frequently Asked Questions

Some quality loss is normal at higher compression — start with a moderate setting and preview the result before choosing a stronger one.
