What this tool does
Turns part of a video into an animated GIF, with controls for the start point, duration, frames per second and output width.
When to use it
- You want a short looping clip for a post or a message.
- You are demonstrating a step in an interface inside an article or documentation.
- You need an animated preview somewhere a video player will not run.
How to use it
- Put a video on the drop area or choose it.
- Enter "Start (seconds)" and the duration you want — make sure both fall within the video's length.
- Set "Frames per second (FPS)" and "Width (pixels)".
- Click "Convert to GIF", then "Download GIF".
A practical example
Input
A screen recording, starting at 12 seconds for 4 seconds, at 12 FPS and 480 pixels wide.
Output
A four-second animated GIF showing that step clearly at a reasonable file size.
Limitations
- GIFs grow quickly: longer duration, higher resolution or more frames per second multiply the size fast, and the tool warns you about it.
- The GIF format is limited to 256 colours, so clips with rich gradients show visible colour banding.
- A GIF carries no audio at all.
- The start point and duration must fall within the original video's length.
Privacy and processing
Conversion happens inside your browser and the video is never uploaded.
Technical notes
- Conversion runs locally through FFmpeg.wasm; reducing the width and the frame rate are what cut the output size most.
