What this tool does
Changes a video's dimensions to a ready-made aspect ratio or custom dimensions, with a choice of resize method: fit the whole picture inside the frame, or fill the frame and crop the excess.
When to use it
- A platform requires a specific aspect ratio such as square or vertical.
- You need a landscape video as vertical for phone stories.
- You want smaller dimensions to reduce file size and load time.
How to use it
- Put a video on the drop area or choose it.
- Pick an "Aspect ratio", or enter "Custom dimensions" as width and height, optionally with "Lock original aspect ratio".
- Choose the "Resize method": "Fit" to show the whole picture with empty bars, or "Fill & crop" to fill the frame by trimming the edges.
- Apply, then download the video.
A practical example
Input
A 1920×1080 landscape clip converted to a 9:16 vertical ratio using "Fill & crop".
Output
A vertical clip that fills the screen, with the left and right edges of the picture trimmed away.
Choosing "Fit" instead would have shown the whole clip between empty bars top and bottom — the difference is substantial and worth choosing deliberately.
Limitations
- "Fill & crop" loses parts of the frame's edges and can cut off something important near them.
- "Fit" adds empty bars that reduce how much of the screen is used.
- Enlarging a clip's dimensions cannot add detail that is not there.
- One clip at a time.
