Background Replace

Uses the same local AI model behind the background remover to recognize the main subject in your photo, then lets you choose the new background: a solid color (with common presets for ID-photo-style shots), a custom background image you upload, a blur of the original background, or fully transparent. All processing happens in your browser, with nothing ever uploaded to a server.

Image Tools Runs entirely in your browser

Your image is processed entirely on your device by a local AI model — it is never uploaded to any server.

What this tool does

Separates the main subject from its background and replaces the background: transparent, a solid colour, another image, a blurred version, or a product preset with a shadow.

When to use it

  • Product photos that need one consistent white background for a marketplace.
  • A portrait whose background must be a specific colour for an official form.
  • A logo or object you want on a transparent background for use in a design.
  • Placing a person or product against an entirely different backdrop.

How to use it

  1. Put the image on the drop area or choose it.
  2. Wait for the model to load the first time.
  3. Choose the background type: transparent, colour, image, blur or product mode.
  4. Set the accompanying option — the colour, the background image, the blur amount, or the product shadow.
  5. Apply the processing and download the result.

A practical example

Input

A product photo on a wooden table, using product mode with a light shadow.

Output

The product on a clean background with a natural shadow beneath it, ready for an online store.

Limitations

  • Separation relies on identifying the salient object, so images with several subjects or busy backgrounds can come out with imprecise edges.
  • Flyaway hair and transparent objects such as glass are the hardest cases for any segmentation model, and this is no exception.
  • A transparent background requires saving in a format that supports transparency, or it will appear as a solid colour.
  • Both the source image and any background image you supply are capped at 20 MB and 4096 pixels on the longest side.
  • It needs a recent browser capable of running the model locally.

Privacy and processing

All processing is inside your browser: both the source image and any background image you pick stay on your device, and no server is called.

Technical notes

  • It uses the same segmentation model as the background blur tool, then composites the extracted subject over the new background.
  • Product mode adds a computed shadow beneath the subject so it reads as sitting on a surface rather than pasted on.

Frequently Asked Questions

No — the subject-recognition model runs entirely in your browser, and your photo never leaves your device at any stage of processing.
