AI Background Remover
Removes the background from photos of people and objects using a local AI model that runs entirely in your browser via WebAssembly — your image is never uploaded to any server. Upload a JPG, PNG, or WebP image and get a transparent PNG in seconds, ready for profile pictures, product photos, or dropping onto a new background.
Your images are processed entirely on your device by a local AI model — they are never uploaded to any server.

What this tool does
Removes an image's background, leaving the main subject alone on a transparent background, using an image-segmentation model that runs inside your browser.
When to use it
- Product photos needing a transparent background for a store or a design.
- A portrait you want isolated from its background.
- A logo or object you want transparent for use in a design.
- Preparing an image to composite onto another background.
How to use it
- Put the image on the drop area or choose it.
- Wait for the model to load the first time.
- Apply the processing and download the image with its transparent background.
A practical example
Input
A product photo against a busy background.
Output
The product isolated on a transparent background, ready to place on any backdrop.
Limitations
- The model identifies the salient object, so an image with no clear main subject can produce an unexpected result.
- Flyaway hair and transparent objects such as glass are the hardest cases for any segmentation model.
- An image over 20 MB, or longer than 4096 pixels on a side, is refused before the model runs.
- Save the result in a format that supports transparency, or the background will appear as a solid colour.
Privacy and processing
Unlike the other tools in this category, this one sends nothing to any provider: the model runs entirely inside your browser and your image never leaves your device.
Technical notes
- The model is u2netp for salient-object segmentation, about 4.6 MB, self-hosted here and loaded only when the tool is opened.
- It is a segmentation model rather than a generative one: it produces an alpha mask applied to your original image without generating any new pixels.
