Audio Compressor

Compress an audio file to a smaller size for easier sharing or uploading, with a quality level you control. Compression happens locally in your browser — the file is never uploaded.

Audio Tools Runs entirely in your browser

Your audio file is processed on your device and is never uploaded to our servers.

Only use this tool with files you own or have the right to process.

Drag audio files here or choose them

You can select more than one file (MP3, WAV, M4A, or OGG)

What this tool does

Reduces audio file sizes by re-encoding at a compression level you choose, trading a controlled amount of quality for a smaller file.

When to use it

  • An audio file over an email or messaging attachment limit.
  • A recording library whose storage you want to reclaim.
  • A speech recording that does not need music-grade quality.
  • Files going online that should download faster.

How to use it

  1. Put your audio files on the drop area or choose them.
  2. Choose the "Compression level".
  3. Download the compressed files individually or with "Download all as ZIP".

A practical example

Input

A 180 MB WAV lecture recording at a mid compression level.

Output

A far smaller file in which the speech stays perfectly clear, because speech needs little bitrate.

Limitations

  • Compression is lossy, and high levels produce audible artefacts, especially in music.
  • An already efficiently compressed file may not shrink much.
  • Music recordings suffer more from compression than speech does.
  • The file limit is 300 MB.

Privacy and processing

The re-encode runs on your own device for every file in the queue, with nothing uploaded.

Technical notes

  • Compression works by lowering the bitrate during re-encoding through FFmpeg.wasm locally.
