PDF Annotate & Markup
The PDF Annotate & Markup tool lets you add visible marks on top of your file's pages without changing its original content: highlights in a color you choose, boxes to outline an area, free-form text in Arabic or English (drawn with your browser's own font engine so Arabic letters connect correctly), and ready-made check/cross marks. Move and resize each annotation freely before adding it, on any number of pages, then download a final PDF with every annotation actually merged into the pages. This is different from a true text editor — it adds marks on top of existing content and never edits the file's original text. All processing happens in your browser — your file is never uploaded to a server.
Your file is processed entirely on your device and is never uploaded to a server.

What this tool does
Adds visible markup to a PDF's pages: a coloured highlight, a box, a text note, or a tick or cross stamp, placed where you click on the page.
When to use it
- You are reviewing a document and want to mark the important or questionable passages.
- You are working through a form or checklist with ticks and crosses.
- You want to add a written note beside a particular clause before sending the file back.
How to use it
- Put a PDF on the drop area or choose it.
- Move between pages with "Previous" and "Next".
- Choose the "Annotation type": Highlight, Box, Text, ✓ Check or ✗ Cross.
- Pick a colour, and type the text if you chose the text type — text is required before it can be added.
- Use "Add at this position", then download the annotated PDF.
A practical example
Input
An 8-page contract where you highlight a paragraph on page 3 in yellow and add the note "needs legal review" beside it.
Output
A copy of the contract with that paragraph highlighted and the note written next to it, every other page untouched.
Limitations
- Annotations are merged into the page as drawn content, not as standard PDF comments — so they do not appear in a reader's comment panel and cannot be deleted or replied to after saving.
- A highlight is a translucent shape drawn over the text, not attached to it; editing the document later will not move the highlight with it.
- There are no freehand drawing, arrow or line tools.
Privacy and processing
The file is processed entirely on your device, and annotations are applied locally with nothing uploaded.
Technical notes
- The coordinate maths and text-direction detection are pure functions kept separate from the interface and covered by unit tests that need no browser — because translating a click into PDF coordinates is where this kind of tool most often goes wrong.
Frequently Asked Questions
No — all annotating and saving happens directly in your browser; neither your original file nor the edited version is ever uploaded anywhere.
