Add Page Numbers to PDF
Add page numbers to a PDF with control over position (corners or center), starting number, and format — then download the numbered file. The whole process runs in your browser, so the original document is never uploaded anywhere.
Your file is processed on your device and is never uploaded to our servers.

One file at a time
What this tool does
Stamps page numbers onto an existing PDF. You choose where the number sits (top or bottom × left, centre or right) and its format — a plain number, or number-of-total such as "3 / 12".
When to use it
- You merged several files into one document and it lost its continuous numbering.
- A document is going to print and you want the sheets reorderable if they get shuffled.
- A contract or formal report needs clear numbering so it can be referenced in correspondence.
How to use it
- Drag a PDF onto the drop area or choose it.
- Pick where the number goes, from the six available positions.
- Pick the format: number only, or number of total.
- Add the numbering and download the file.
A practical example
Input
A 12-page report, bottom-centre, number-of-total format.
Output
The same report with sequential numbering from "1 / 12" to "12 / 12" at the bottom centre of every page.
Limitations
- Only digits are stamped into the file — a word such as "Page" alongside the number is not offered. The reason is specific: pdf-lib's standard fonts cover Latin glyphs only, and embedding a third-party font for one label would add real weight and licensing risk for no proportionate gain.
- The number is drawn over the page content, so it can overlap a document that leaves no margin where you placed it.
- Numbering always starts at 1 on the first page; there is no option to start the count later in the document.
Privacy and processing
Numbering is added inside your browser and the file is never uploaded.
Technical notes
- Numbers are drawn in pdf-lib's built-in Helvetica, with a fixed 24-point margin from the page edge.
