Video Background Remover

Uses an AI model (the same one behind the Background Remover for images) to analyze each frame of your video individually and separate the person or subject from the background, then places it onto a new background you choose (a solid color, or a blur of the original background), and finally reassembles the video with the original audio unchanged. Because AI processing every single frame genuinely takes real time, this tool currently supports short clips only, and the output is re-encoded at a lower frame rate than the original. All processing happens entirely in your browser, with the video never uploaded to a server.

Video Tools Runs entirely in your browser

Your video is processed on your device and is never uploaded to our servers.

Only use this tool with files you own or have the right to process.

For AI-processing performance reasons, this tool only supports clips up to 15 seconds long, and the resulting video is re-encoded at 8 frames/second (not the original video's own frame rate).

What this tool does

Removes a video's background and replaces it with a blurred version of the original or a solid colour, by analysing each frame individually and then reassembling the clip.

When to use it

  • A clip filmed somewhere unsuitable for professional publication.
  • An introduction recording that needs a clean, consistent backdrop.
  • A short product clip where the object should be isolated from its surroundings.

How to use it

  1. Put a short video on the drop area or choose it.
  2. Choose the "Background type": "Blur the original background" or "New solid color".
  3. Set the "Blur amount" or the "Background color" accordingly.
  4. Click "Remove video background" and wait through frame extraction and reassembly.
  5. Download the result.

A practical example

Input

A 10-second clip of someone talking in a room, with the background blurred.

Output

The same clip with the person sharp and the room behind them blurred throughout.

Limitations

  • The maximum duration is 15 seconds — a deliberate ceiling, because every frame is analysed separately and a longer clip would exhaust memory and take an unreasonable time in a browser.
  • Separation is computed per frame independently, so edges can shimmer slightly between frames in a way they do not in a single still image.
  • Fast movement, flyaway hair and poor lighting make separation harder, as with any tool of this kind.
  • This is among the heaviest operations here, so expect a noticeable wait even at 15 seconds.

Privacy and processing

Every frame is extracted, processed and reassembled inside your browser; neither the clip nor any frame of it is uploaded.

Technical notes

  • Processing runs in the two stages you see in the interface: extracting the frames, then reassembling the clip once they are processed.
  • It uses the same segmentation stack as the still-image background tools, applied frame by frame.

Frequently Asked Questions

Analyzing every single frame's background with AI, right in the browser, genuinely takes real time per frame — the longer the video, the more frames and the longer the total processing time. That's why this tool is currently limited to short clips — you can use the Video Trimmer tool to shorten a longer clip first.
