What this tool does
Converts between units across several categories — length, weight, volume, temperature and others — by picking the category and then the two units.
When to use it
- A recipe in ounces when you work in grams.
- A measurement in inches you need in centimetres.
- A temperature in Fahrenheit you want in Celsius.
- Data that arrived in a different measurement system from the one you use.
How to use it
- Choose the "Unit category".
- Choose the source and target units.
- Enter the "Value" and read the "Result".
A practical example
Input
Temperature, Fahrenheit to Celsius, value 100.
Output
About 37.8 degrees Celsius.
Temperature is the one case where multiplying by a factor is not enough: it also has an offset, which is why it converts differently from length or weight.
Limitations
- The available units are those listed in each category; rare or specialist units are not covered.
- The conversion is purely arithmetic and ignores context — converting a volume to a weight needs the substance's density, so use the Cooking Measurement Converter for that.
- Results are shown to a limited precision, which may not suit engineering use.
Privacy and processing
All conversions happen on your device and nothing is sent to a server.
Technical notes
- Conversions within a category pass through a shared base unit, which is what keeps the result consistent between any pair of units.
