What this tool does
Calculates the tip, the tax and the total, and divides it by the number of people so you know what each owes.
When to use it
- A group meal whose bill needs splitting fairly.
- Working out a tip at a given percentage quickly.
- A bill with tax where you want the real total before paying.
- Checking that the total printed on a bill is right.
How to use it
- Enter the "Bill amount".
- Enter the "Tip percentage %" and the "Tax percentage %" if there is one.
- Enter the "Number of people".
- Read the "Tip", "Tax", "Total" and "Per person".
A practical example
Input
A bill of 200 with a 10% tip and 15% tax, split four ways.
Output
A tip of 20, tax of 30, a total of 250, and 62.5 per person.
Limitations
- The split is equal across everyone; it does not support uneven splits based on what each person ordered.
- Restaurants differ in whether tax is applied before or after the tip; check your bill if the difference matters.
- It does not convert between currencies.
