Discount percentages (you can stack more than one)
What this tool does
Works out the final price after one discount or several stacked ones, and shows the amount saved. Discounts are applied in sequence rather than by adding their rates.
When to use it
- An offer with a discount on a discount, where you want the real price.
- Checking that a shop's advertised price is right.
- Comparing two offers with differently structured discounts.
- Working out how much you will save before buying.
How to use it
- Enter the "Original price".
- Enter the "Discount percentages" — add more than one with "Add another discount".
- Read the "Final price" and the "Amount saved".
A practical example
Input
A price of 1000 with two discounts: 20% then 10%.
Output
A final price of 720 and 280 saved — because the second discount applies to 800, not to 1000.
This is the whole point of the tool: 20% then 10% is not 30%. Adding the rates would give 700, which is wrong by eighty.
Limitations
- The order of the discounts does not change the final figure arithmetically, though some shops specify an order in their terms.
- This does not calculate tax; use the VAT Calculator for that.
- Rates above 100% are meaningless and produce nonsensical results.
Privacy and processing
All calculations happen on your device and prices are never sent to a server.
Technical notes
- Each discount is applied to the price produced by the one before it, which is how shops actually calculate them.
