CSV to Excel Converter

Paste CSV text or upload a .csv file, preview it as a table, and download a real .xlsx workbook built from the values — no formatting is invented, since plain CSV carries none to begin with.

Developer Tools Runs entirely in your browser

The data is processed entirely on your device and is never sent to any server.

The resulting file builds Excel data from the CSV values only, without formatting (colors, fonts), since CSV has no formatting to begin with.

What this tool does

Converts CSV data into an .xlsx Excel file ready to open in a spreadsheet program.

When to use it

  • A CSV you want to send to someone who would rather open it in Excel directly, with no import steps.
  • Data exported from a system as CSV that you want to work on in a spreadsheet.
  • Preparing data for a recipient who requires an Excel file.

How to use it

  1. Paste your CSV into the field, or use "Import a .csv file".
  2. Click "Convert to Excel and download".

A practical example

Input

name, city followed by rows of data.

Output

An .xlsx with a header row of column names and the data rows beneath it.

Limitations

  • A header row and at least one data row are required, and you get a message if they are missing.
  • Data with incorrectly formatted delimiters or quotes is rejected with a message asking you to check it.
  • The output is a table of values with no formulas or formatting; add those after opening it.
  • All values are written as they appear, so some may need their type set inside the program.

Privacy and processing

The CSV you paste is turned into a workbook on your device and is never sent anywhere.

Technical notes

  • The .xlsx is a standard file built locally, and opens in Excel and compatible programs.
