What this tool does
Converts an image into a Base64 Data URL, so it can be embedded directly in HTML, CSS or JSON without a separate file.
When to use it
- Embedding a small icon in a stylesheet to save a network request.
- Sending an image inside a JSON payload to an API.
- Putting an image in an email template that cannot reference an external file.
- Needing an image in a single self-contained file with no accompanying assets.
How to use it
- Put the image on the drop area or choose it.
- Copy the "Result (Data URL)" or use "Download as text".
A practical example
Input
A small PNG icon.
Output
A Data URL beginning data:image/png;base64, followed by the data, ready to paste into CSS.
Limitations
- Encoding adds about a third to the size, so a large image produces an enormous string that weighs your file down more than the saved request is worth.
- Embedded images are not cached independently the way a real image file is, so they reload with every page.
- The approach suits icons and very small images, not photographs.
- Supported formats are JPG, PNG and WebP.
Privacy and processing
The image is converted entirely on your device and is never sent to any server.
Technical notes
- The output is a complete Data URL including the image type, so it pastes straight in wherever an image source is expected.
