CSV Pivot Table

The CSV Pivot Table tool lets you upload a CSV file, then pick a column to group by and another to use as the value, along with an aggregate function (sum, average, count, minimum, or maximum) to summarize each group — just like a spreadsheet's pivot table, right in your browser. Sort the result by group name or value, and download it as a new CSV file. Non-numeric values are handled safely (excluded from the calculation rather than treated as zero), and columns containing commas or quotes are parsed correctly. Runs entirely in your browser — the CSV file you upload is never sent to a server.

What this tool does

Builds a pivot table from a CSV: you pick a column to group by, a column of values, and an aggregate — sum, average, count, minimum or maximum — and get a grouped summary.

When to use it

  • A sales file where you want the total per city.
  • A log where you want the number of records per category.
  • Data where you want an average value per group.
  • Summarising a large file before presenting or analysing it.

How to use it

  1. Put a CSV on the drop area, or click to choose a file from your device.
  2. Pick the "Group by column" to group the rows by.
  3. Pick the "Value column" and the aggregate: "Sum", "Average", "Count", "Minimum" or "Maximum".
  4. Read the "Pivot table result", then click "Download as CSV".

A practical example

Input

A sales file with City and Amount columns, grouped by City using Sum.

Output

A table with one row per city and the total of its amounts, downloadable as CSV.

Limitations

  • Rows whose value is not a valid number are excluded from the calculation, and the tool tells you how many rather than dropping them silently.
  • One grouping column and one value column at a time; multi-level grouping is not offered.
  • The "Count" aggregate counts rows and needs no numeric values, unlike the others.
  • The file must have a header row for the column names to appear in the selectors.

Privacy and processing

Everything happens in your browser — the CSV file you upload is never sent to a server.

Technical notes

  • Excluded non-numeric values are counted and reported explicitly, so you never end up with a plausible-looking total silently computed from only part of the data.
