Gzip Decompressor
Restores any file compressed as Gzip, Deflate, or raw Deflate back to its original form, using the browser's own built-in decompression API — nothing is ever uploaded to a server. Decompress several files at once and download the results individually or as a single ZIP.
Your files are decompressed entirely on your device using the browser's built-in decompression API — nothing is uploaded to a server.

What this tool does
Decompresses files in gzip, deflate or raw deflate format, with batch processing.
When to use it
- A .gz file you received whose contents you need.
- Compressed data from an API you want to read.
- Checking a compressed file's contents.
- Decompressing files without a command-line tool.
How to use it
- Choose the "Format" matching the file — check the hint if you are unsure.
- Put your files on the drop area or choose them.
- Download the decompressed files individually or with "Download all as ZIP".
A practical example
Input
A .gz file in gzip format.
Output
The original file decompressed and ready to open.
Limitations
- Choosing the wrong format fails, with a message suggesting you try another — the commonest failure here, because the three formats are similar and hard to tell apart from the extension alone.
- A corrupt file, or one not compressed in any of the three formats, cannot be decompressed.
- Other formats such as ZIP and RAR are not supported; use the ZIP Extractor for ZIP.
Privacy and processing
Decompression happens entirely inside your browser and no file is uploaded to a server.
Technical notes
- The failure message suggests changing the format specifically because telling the three apart from the file itself is not always possible.
Frequently Asked Questions
No — decompression happens entirely in your browser using the Compression Streams API built into modern browsers, without uploading anything.
