Text to Speech
Type or paste text and have it read aloud using the speech synthesis voices already built into your browser, with control over voice, speed, and pitch — no audio ever leaves your device or gets uploaded anywhere.
This relies on your browser's or operating system's built-in text-to-speech feature — some voices may be processed locally on your device, depending on the browser and OS.
Your browser doesn't currently support text-to-speech.
What this tool does
Speaks the text you type using one of the voices installed on your device, at a speed you choose.
When to use it
- Listening to a text instead of reading it.
- Proofreading something you wrote by hearing it read back.
- Checking how a piece of text sounds before recording it.
- Making a text easier to take in for someone who prefers listening.
How to use it
- Type your text into the field.
- Choose the "Voice" from those available on your device.
- Set the "Speed".
- Click "Play", and "Stop" when you want it to end.
A practical example
Input
A written paragraph with a voice selected and a natural speed.
Output
The paragraph spoken aloud in that voice through your device's speakers.
Limitations
- The available voices are your operating system's and browser's, so they differ from device to device — a voice for a given language may not exist on yours, and the tool tells you when it cannot find a suitable one.
- This plays audio and does not produce a downloadable file; to capture it, run the Voice Recorder while it plays.
- Pronunciation quality and naturalness depend on the system voices rather than on this tool.
- Browsers without speech synthesis support show an explicit message.
Privacy and processing
Speech is produced by the engine built into your device, and this tool does not send your text to any server.
Technical notes
- It uses the browser's built-in speech-synthesis interface, so it needs no model download and adds no weight to the page.
