PDF Splitter

Break a large PDF into smaller files by page ranges — pull out a chapter, separate scanned pages, or divide a report into parts. Everything runs locally, so the original file is never uploaded anywhere.

One file at a time

What this tool does

Extracts specific pages from a PDF into a new file. You type the pages you want in familiar notation like "1-3, 5, 8-9" and get back a document containing only those pages, while your original file is left completely untouched.

When to use it

  • You need one chapter or section out of a long report or book.
  • You want to send particular pages of a document without sharing the rest of it.
  • A scan contains several consecutive documents and you want each one as its own file.
  • You need a single page — a certificate or a receipt buried in a larger file.

How to use it

  1. Drag one PDF onto the drop area or choose it — this tool handles one file at a time.
  2. In "Pages to extract", type the range you want, for example 1-3, 5, 8-9 — or press "Select all" to take every page.
  3. Click "Extract pages"; the new file is built and downloaded automatically.

A practical example

Input

A 120-page document, with 1, 14-18, 97 typed into the range field.

Output

A 7-page PDF containing page 1, then pages 14 through 18, then page 97, in that order.

These are the pages' actual positions in the file, not the numbers printed on the page. In a document whose printed numbering starts after a 10-page front matter, the two will not line up.

Limitations

  • At least one valid page number is required; an empty or malformed range is rejected with a message showing the expected format.
  • Numbers beyond the document's page count are treated as invalid input.
  • The result is one file containing all the requested ranges, not a separate file per range.
  • Password-protected files need to be unlocked first.

Privacy and processing

Splitting happens inside your browser and your file is never uploaded. Your original document is never modified — the tool only ever creates a new file.

Technical notes

  • Pages are copied with pdf-lib without re-encoding, so they keep their original quality and their selectable text.
  • The field accepts single pages and ranges together on one line, separated by commas; spaces around the commas do not matter.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes — define as many page ranges as you need, and each one becomes its own downloaded PDF.
