JSONPath Tester

Paste JSON data and a JSONPath expression — using dot notation, bracket indexing, the wildcard [*], or recursive search (..) — and see exactly what it matches. Supports a safe subset of JSONPath, without arbitrary filter expressions.

Developer Tools Runs entirely in your browser

The processing happens entirely on your device and your data is never sent to any server.

This tool supports a safe subset of JSONPath: dot notation, bracket indexing, the wildcard [*], and recursive search (..) — without support for complex filter expressions.

What this tool does

Runs a JSONPath expression against JSON data and shows what it returns immediately, so you can confirm a path works before putting it in your code.

When to use it

  • Writing an integration that pulls a field out of a nested response and wanting to confirm the path.
  • Learning JSONPath and trying expressions against real data.
  • Extracting a list of values from an array of objects.
  • Finding a key somewhere in a deep structure whose exact location you do not know.

How to use it

  1. Paste your JSON into the data field.
  2. Type the path expression into the path field, for example $.users[0].name.
  3. Click "Run" and read the result.

A practical example

Input

An object containing a users array, with the path $.users[*].name

Output

A list of every user's name from the array.

Limitations

  • What is supported is a practical subset of JSONPath: dot notation ($.a.b), bracket index ($.a[0]), wildcards ($.a[*] and $.a.*), and recursive descent ($..b).
  • Filter expressions such as [?(@.price<10)] and script expressions are deliberately unsupported — safely evaluating an arbitrary filter would need its own sandboxed mini-language, so the tool omits them rather than claiming partial support.
  • The supported subset covers the large majority of everyday lookups, but check whether your project depends on the advanced forms.

Privacy and processing

The data and the path are processed on your device and neither is sent to any server.

Technical notes

  • The expression is interpreted as a data path rather than executed as code, so nothing inside the data can run.
