HTML Entity Encoder/Decoder
Convert characters like <, >, &, and quotes into their safe HTML entity form for embedding in markup, or decode an already-escaped string back into readable plain text. All conversion is done as pure text transforms — nothing is ever rendered as live HTML.

What this tool does
Converts HTML's special characters into their entities or back, so text displays as written instead of being interpreted as markup.
When to use it
- Showing HTML source inside a web page as text rather than as live elements.
- Reading text full of < and & in its original form.
- Writing a code example in an article or documentation.
- Debugging text whose characters are being interpreted as tags.
How to use it
- Choose the "Conversion direction": "Encode HTML" or "Decode HTML".
- Paste your text into the field.
- Copy the result.
A practical example
Input
<div>Text</div>, encoding.
Output
<div>Text</div> — text that displays as written rather than creating an element.
Limitations
- This encoding is for display rather than security: HTML-encoding is the right way to show text, but securing user input in a real application belongs in that application's own code, not in a manual tool.
- Encoding covers HTML's special characters; everything else is left alone.
- Decoding text containing an unknown entity leaves it as it is.
Privacy and processing
Encoding and decoding both happen on your device; the text is never sent anywhere.
Technical notes
- The conversion covers the characters that genuinely affect how HTML is parsed, not every entity in the specification.
