Color Palette Harmony Generator

The Color Palette Harmony Generator uses color-wheel theory to build a full palette from a single base color you pick: complementary (two opposite colors), analogous (three neighboring colors), triadic or tetradic (colors spaced evenly around the wheel), split-complementary, or monochromatic (different lightness steps of the same hue). You can also generate a random base color with one click, and copy each hex code individually or copy the whole palette at once. All calculations happen instantly in your browser — nothing is ever uploaded to a server.

What this tool does

Builds a harmonious palette from a base colour using a colour relationship you choose — complementary, analogous, triadic, split-complementary, tetradic or monochromatic.

When to use it

  • Starting a design from a brand colour and needing colours to complete it.
  • Finding a complementary colour to make an element stand out.
  • Building a consistent colour system for a project.
  • Learning colour relationships in practice.

How to use it

  1. Enter the "Base color" or press "Random color".
  2. Choose the "Color harmony type".
  3. Copy an individual colour or "Copy all hex codes".

A practical example

Input

A base colour with an analogous relationship.

Output

A palette of colours near the base on the colour wheel, harmonious and calm.

The difference is practical: analogous feels calm and cohesive, while complementary gives a strong contrast that suits highlighting one element rather than colouring a whole page.

Limitations

  • Colour harmony is a guideline rather than a guarantee; a mathematically harmonious palette may not suit your context or audience.
  • A palette does not guarantee sufficient contrast between text and background — check every combination you will use with the Colour Contrast Checker.
  • Colour associations differ across cultures, which the tool does not account for.

Privacy and processing

The colours are generated entirely in your browser and nothing is ever sent to a server.

Technical notes

  • The relationships are computed by shifting the hue around the colour wheel by the angles each type defines, which is the theoretical basis of colour harmony.

Frequently Asked Questions

Each type spaces colors differently around the color wheel: complementary picks a fully opposite color for strong contrast, analogous picks neighboring colors for a calm, cohesive look, while triadic and tetradic spread colors evenly for balanced variety.
